Young Siskin

A number of young birds feeding in the garden at the moment. This Siskin? landed on my hand as I was hanging the feeder. it was on the feeder and eating before the feeder was up.

Looks like a youngster, so it has a lot to learn about learn about trusting large mammals!

You are right they need to learn very quickly. We have a Sparrow Hawk that flies though the garden most weeks and they really need to be more aware of the dangers.
To help, after checking that there are none on the ground we are letting our dog out to run around and bark at them!

and fun for the dog, too! I had a border collie that took considerable pleasure in scattering Canada geese from around the local pond. She left the mallards alone as beneath her dignity...
