Used to be my favourite birding site in the seventies and eighties, before RSPB or whatever it is these days. Many a happy winter's day getting the bus to Gravesend, walking along the canal past the rifle range, across the marshes and then round the pits (and back!).
I wasn't into diptera back then, but it should be a superb place for wetland flies. Plenty of Anasimyia and Parhelophilus, I should think.
