It looked like a gone wrong sputnick, had what I think was an exit hole, a bit of spider web on it I was thinking a spider sac that had contained eggs.

The Roberts guide is still an awesome compact guide, but many of the names are now a little out of date, especially in theridiidae (asagena / parasteatoda / paidiscura / phylloneta etc).
Paidiscura pallens (Blackwall, 1834) is the current preferred name for this cracking little spider.
It gets even more confusing when there is a bit of conflict between the SRS checklist and the widely used names on the continent - phylloneta and malthonica for example.
I have just googled Paidiscura pallens and I am now naming my files.
