It certainly looks like a daisy (and I'm sure you've identified it correctly!), but to my eyes, and being no good at plant ID, I'm not sure I can tell from the photo alone that it isn't one of the other daisy-type flowers. Can you say what size it was, or describe the leaves?
Entomologist and biological recorder
I've just asked a friend of mine to revisit where I spotted them to take another look (can't get back until the weekend) and he's suggested they might be an Ox Eye daisy (Leucanthemum vulgare).
