...of the observation might just be a little bit wrong! ;)
Quite right - we were there in August 2012. I don't know how that happened ! Can I change it through 'edit' or do I have to leave it like that ?
... as if you can. Go to edit, and click on the date, and the date-picker comes up.
[1st January 1970 is a common value for zero in computer systems, so what may happened is that you didn't (successfully) specify a date (perhaps as a side-effect of the sluggishness of iSpot), and for some reason it defaulted to zero rather than the current date.]
I have tried 4 times to change the date to 2nd August 2012. Preview shows the new date but when I click 'save' it goes back to 1970. Am I missing something ?
Unless you know the trick of persuading it that it is wrong and you are right. I can't remember, but you either tab away, or just click away, into a different field. I had no end of trouble correcting a location because of it. The Wetware must stand up to the Software!
... which I presume is for things like this.
