Description:

I'd been told that green woodpeckers frequent this garden on a regular basis. I heard two or three, but I'd just about given up, and had put the camera and tripod away when this juvenile flew past my ear. I followed it to the orchard, and got some quite good photos, considering it was all hand held...

"Quite good"

Corking I'd say - you don't want to see my photos of green woodpeckers!

How Kind...

They aren't easy, are they? I've got loads of really good picturess of Great Spotted Woodpeckers - I even get them in the garden from time to time - but the green variety seem to be more timid. Or perhaps that's just me.
And I don't think I've ever seen a Lesser Spotted... One day, maybe.

Oh to see a Lesser Spotted! They are supposed to be present at a small wood nearby but you could have fooled me. Definitely one of my ambitions too.

Lesser Spotted

Hmm... always feels like someone is playing a joke on me with these, never was a bird more aptly named. Never seen one either.

They're Tricky, No Doubt About That!

I've been to three or four sites where they're supposed to be resident, but no luck yet.
As they're supposed to lurk high in the trees, and they're quite small, perhaps I ought not to be surprised!
One day...
