This is one of our largest bush-crickets, at 40-50mm (the LW Cone-head is less than half that). In the UK it is found in the southern half of the country, especially around the coast. In France it is still relatively common in grassy waste places. The similar Tettigonia cantans has much shorter wings and is only found in a few regions in NE France. They can give a nasty nip if mis-handled.
