I don't think its a brown hawker as I spotted it in Scotland and I don't think they are normally found here. Also the wings are not brown-tinted like on the brown hawker. Sorry its not the best photo, I had to take it on my phone.
It's not a Brown Hawker. As you say, no tint on the wings and the abdominal pattern is wrong, too.
Could be a Common Hawker with those thorax side panels but, without more detail ... ?
Yes Brown is questionable but it is at a push on the limit of range see NBN
