Unknown moth

Observed: 18th August 2013 By: MaryandBobMaryandBob’s reputation in InvertebratesMaryandBob’s reputation in Invertebrates

At first, we thought this was a Square-spot Rustic but the markings don't seem to agree exactly. Please can someone let us know what it is, thanks! About 17mm in length.

Hi MaryandBob,It does look

Hi MaryandBob,

It does look like a Square-spot Rustic, the oval just seems a bit more circular than normal but its a variable moth. I could be wrong as always(I frequently am) but I think you are right with your first impression.
