Description:

Solitary fungus found in shade under dense Rosebay Willowherb cover; not sure whether upper surface is always shiny or whether recent rain had made it wet and shiny. Cap about 6-7cm in diameter.

More Information

Hi marksteer, thanks for your ID; having looked the name up in a book, your choice seems reasonsble to me, but more importantly it has been agreed too. Not sure what else would be helpful. The location has significant amounts of composted vegetation accumulated over a number of years; there are a variety of sapling-sized, or slightly larger, trees, but years of Bracken growth has hindered their development and led to the demise of some. This summer, the area had very dense cover of Rosebay Willowherb.
