Description:

Striking black and orange beetle with a load of smaller invertebrates on its thorax (and perhaps rear leg?)

They are

Phoretic mites - hitchhikers on the beetle to the next 'meal' and harmless to the beetle

Thanks Maria! I had to look up 'phoretic' but it is good to know what was going on. Amazing what you can see if you keep eyes open.
