Have been told that it is possibly a Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus)
As a birder of little experience the head markings are the only way I can confidently identify whimbrel vs. curlew (I know there is the bill difference but I find this very hard to spot without a direct comparison) and as the head is none too clear here I can't be sure, hopefully one of the masters will help more!?

Bill looks quite long to me and the head (what we can see of it) is quite plain so I think probably a Curlew.
