Hybos

I've collected several of these but haven't got round to them yet. Fortunately it's one of the Hybotids included in Collin's key. Lots on what looked like Redleg growing in woods

Hybos

Very common, aren't they? Equal numbers of femoratus and culiciformis, where I am.

Hybos

yesterday I couldn't understand why this wasn't definitely femoratus, but after viewing vouchers of all three collected by Fonesca ('58), the front two pairs of legs look much more like culiciformis. And what really stood out was how shiny the thorax of femoratus is, and how dull on the other two. Difficult to tell here, it might be pale hairs or dusting interrupting the apparently shiny patch showing, not convincing either way

Unconvincing

I agree...as always, without a specimen you are usually only guessing, really!
