I didn't have long to photograph this beetle as it was hurrying away, so I only managed to get the top down view.

The one on the left is Abax parallelepipedus, and the one on the right is the 'other' violet ground beetle, Carabus problematicus.

Thanks for this information. I had not gone right down to the bottom of the page and had not seen your comment. I have left the '2nd' beetle as it is as the ID had been entered as you have stated.
I hope I have got this right and apologies.
