Large sea bird. Dark brown back,and head. Dark upper wings and tail with pale streaking. Pale chin, brown collar. White breast mottled at sides. White patches under wings with dark wing tips.

Fantastic shots. I always find these difficult to ID if they have not got the characteristic tail feathers - but think I agree with Pomarine. The markings in the upper tail coverts are very striking, but I don't know if this is in any way diagnostic.
But it looks very bulky around the 'shoulders' and the breast band is very marked too.

The upper-tail covert marks

The upper-tail covert marks are age-related. Looks like a 2nd-summer bird (I think). Don't think I'd want to call either way (Pom or Arctic) on those shots, but must have been lovely views!
