If you used Collins Photographic Guide to Insects there is a photo of X.pedisequum labelled as E.nitens
That's why you shouldn't use the Collins Guide for ID - It's only a GUIDE (the word's in the title!)
BMIG website: www.bmig.org.uk (centipedes, millipedes & woodlice)
BMIG Newsletters ~ www.bmig.org.uk/view/resource/bmig-newsletter
BMIG Bulletins ~ www.bmig.org.uk/view/resource/bmig-bulletin
Do I therefore take it that the X. pedissequum in Collins is NOT as labelled? And if not what is it?
As the two specimens referred to are totally different!
The pictures of the two species, Xanthogramma pedissequum and Eupeodes nitens are transposed, as I remember it. Though whether it actually is E. nitens I have no idea!
