Description:

I had this marked down as marsh willowherb. I thought that was correct, but the flowers look more open than in other photo's. Growing at the edge of a boggy area. Leaves opposite, narrow and hairless. About 20cm in height. Unlobed stigma. Drooping.

Not Marsh Willowherb

The stigma shows signs of four lobes even though they are sticking together. That would fit E. parviflorum if the stems and leaves were downy which they don't seem to be. The size of the flowers suggests a hybrid of E. montanum or hirsutum perhaps, but a photo won't help in that case!

Hybrids

Epilobium palustre , E montanum and E. parviflorum all grow in close proximity. E. hirsutum is not so common here. I am a botanical neophyte so this is all very bamboozling. I may post some more willowherb pics in the hopes of getting an ID correct!
