nigrina is the latest scientific name for this species, nigripes a junior synonym. Strictly speaking you need to see if there are 2 or 4 ad bristles on the mid-tibia to separate it from the rare solivaga. I try hard to get that in shot so I don't have to catch each one to check
Amazingly busy aren't they, and always there again the next day, often on the very same leaf!

Thanks for the comments. This is the second Tachinid that I have seen displaying actively mobile behaviour at ground level. The other was identified, after some debate, as Sturmia bella ("Fly actively exploring undergrowth" - to iSpot 30th Sept. 2012).
