Stacks of these flying around today - very flighty so apologies for the blurry snap. Perhaps 10mm long.

Thanks for the ID Steve. The wasps are perhaps there because there is an artificially created sandy bank there (part of a landscaping scheme). The same bank had nesting Ivy Bees last autumn.

Still plenty today - I would guess 50 plus individuals.
