It's a male and definitely not a Large Skipper.

The iSpot trend

Seems to be to add an "either/or" identification, which is in the iSpot database. The unidentifiable (from the photos posted) specimens have acquired the nickname of "SmEssex Skippers".

I must admit I find it quite a difficult character to use reliably in the field, but in this case the photo does seem to show it clearly.
