60d_8083 snail query

Curious shell formation on White lipped snail. It looks as if the shell has perhaps been damaged and then repaired itself but there seems to be an overlap. I only noticed this when I enlarged the photo so no examination was made at the time. Any explanations please.

Damage or growth line.

It's either new shell growth following breakage, or the line marking the extent of first years growth (many snails take more than one year to reach adulthood - and then finally grow that characteristic thickened lip to the shell). This look rough so probably the former.

Examples of latter can be seen in

thank you Steve

thanks for your comments - if its new growth following breakage I thought there ought to be evidence of a similar repair the other side of the breakage - unless it was just a split. Anyway thanks again for your conclusions.
