Description:

Hi Martin, a coloured up adult added from the same site from a bit over 1 week ago. Looks like Aphrophora alni? This new one might be that species, there's lots of them on the site.

amazing

What an amazing thing to watch, good to see the photos. I think at that size Aphrophora must be the most likely ID, but it's difficult to be completely certain from the teneral adult.

Hi Martin, It must have only

Hi Martin,

It must have only hatched moments before I found it. I photographed coloured up adults a week or so ago and they look very like the examples of Aphrophora alni in British Bugs. The text does say there is another genus that looks similar but that A. alni is very common and widespread. I didnt keep it so I can only guess at what its likely to be.

Thanks,

Cathal.
