Large Yellow Underwing.
Description:

This is puzzling me, though I expect it shouldn't. At first glance I thought it was a Broad-bordered Yellow Underwing, but not with those jagged cross-lines and pale oval and light head. It's more like a Pearly Underwing but it doesn't have the crest. What am I missing here?

Hi Bill,

If you have WTL with the species on page 247, have a look at the illustration on the left with fore wing outstretched and hind wing visible.

Thanks!

Not what I usually see around here, but yes! I knew I had to be missing something. And I see that illustration, thanks.

Its quite unlike the other 2 examples given which are almost unmarked but this type here I see as much as any of the other guises. My favourite one is the deep chocolate brown one. The plain chocolate colour- really lovely when fresh and glossy.

Records

Looking through my old photos, I have seen examples of this type before, but the particular fresh colour of this one did not bring them to mind! This is my second year of mothing and I am still learning.
