I thought also that is was green vein white

However, if you look at the "big butterfly count Id chart" website, this butterfly has two spots which represents a "Large white" Do the number of spots define the species?

I think it's the precise

I think it's the precise pattern of dark spots and veins which is diagnostic. The males and females are also very different! Females tend to have 2 spots, males one in all 3 species!

I would never have known this from the website, however... that is not to say I still won't be baffled by the differences in the field. Thanks again for the information. I am learning more every day.
