Description:

Wasp with yellow and black banded abdomen. Yellow band on tergite 2 much broader.Clypeus yellow. Front 2 pairs of legs largely yellow, hind legs, more brownish. Wings dark towards the apices. Not keen to fly, but active roaming, especially following photo flash.

Hi Simon, this does look like Gorytes laticinctus, but if so it is an odd one - they usually have more yellow on the face and thorax (e.g. on the scutellum). But I can't think of anything else that matches it better.

Gorytes laticinctus has spread quite a lot in recent years so the Red Data Book listing is a little out of date, although it's still quite a scarce species.
