An eventful day!

Is it unusual for an otter to swim so far out? In salt water too!

Its the first time Ive seen

Its the first time Ive seen one so far off the shore Philip, it was a big surprise. Have seen them umpteen times along that shoreline but not out roughly a kilometre. It wasnt much less than that but you know yourself, judging distance over water is difficult. We were in a boat the same distance out. It was exactly what I saw in Lough Erne a month back and have seen many times before, swimming forward with head only showing, creating a wake and then going down showing the hump of the back. If there's a way for it to catch a salmon in open water it will discover it!

We were actually quite close to where you had your good lizard day recently, Layde shore.

Cathal.

An adventurous otter

I imagine the calm conditions tempted it out further than usual.
