V large mushrooms on tree in Solihull

Observed: 22nd July 2013 By: Philip Leng1

20cm + mushrooms growing from base of and out of large dead tree - difficult to tell what sort of tree. Mushroom cap similar to Parasol with no obvious scales but nipple in middle, 2-3cm thick. Gills well defined, single, densely packed, dark brown, not connecting with stalk. Stalk has no ring, similar length to radius of cap, slight thickening at base. Remains of a sheath.Immature specimens appearing as egg like structures on tree or in grass at base.

These huge damaged and intact specimens look like Parasols but there is no ring - so can't be?
