Description:

This is growing in the same area as the ribbed melilot I posted recently http://www.ispot.org.uk/node/347663
I'm unable to tell the two apart other than by close inspection of the seeds.
These are hairy while those of M.officinalis are clearly ribbed.

Flower

The photo clearly shows that the keel is the same length as the wings, useful before the fruits form.

Keel length

My problem with this as with many other IDs is to do with degree of difference.
I wasn't able to tell that the keel and wings where different in my previous observation http://www.ispot.org.uk/node/347663 but the seeds were clear. In this area are a number of each plant, I've stared at all the flowers but still can't tell one from the other :(

Seeds

You're right, of course, but sometimes it's quite easy to tell from the flowers. Seeds are best if you can get them!
