One of a fascinating family of flies which hijack bumblebees in flight, depositing an egg in the bee within a split second. The egg develops and the larvae then devour the living bee from within and finish their life cycle within the bee, before emerging the next spring as an adult. This is perhaps the commonest of these conopid flies.
