Growth on Leaf

Observed: 18th July 2013 By: Allie Stewart
Close up of growth on underside of leaf

Description:

I found this on a walk through woodland close to a river. Unfortunately I don't even know what type of tree it came from. It looks like some kind of growth. It was on the underneath of the leaf.

What you have here ...

... is the bract and immature inflorescence of a lime - the bract adnate (fused) to the peduncle (inflorescence stalk) is a feature unique to limes. There does however appear to be a gall at the lowest node of the inflorescence.
