Larvae seen in water butt

Description:

Body like a small greyish worm, about icm long, with a very thin tail about twice as long
On July 17th, I saw a whole bundle of them (photo attached), with individuals breaking off and swimming away. they swim with a movement rather like a caterpillar.

Drone flies and Golden Syrup

Drone flies look like bees and their larvae, with their long breathing tubes, can live in the most disgusting, anaerobic conditions such as the liquid in a rotting crops. Next time you have some golden syrup take a close look at the picture on the tin.
