Dead swift chick

Observed: 14th July 2013 By: coloursofmemorycoloursofmemory’s reputation in Birdscoloursofmemory’s reputation in Birds

Dead chick found on ground below gutter. We have several swift nests in the roof, but this is the first dead chick we've seen. There's a dead adult swift (cause unknown)on the roof, stuck in the gutter, that's been there for a week or two.We can't remove it without going very near the nests. We don't want to risk disturbance. Chick had pieces of fine grasses in its mouth/ down its throat when found. Remarkable turtle-like wing shape.

    Likely ID
    Common Swift
Confidence: It's likely to be this, but I can't be certain.

Hard to agree from just this picture.
Have you got any showing its feet?
Four toes pointing forward would be unmistakeable.

Another photo added, which would seem to confirm it is a swift. What a shame this one didn't make it, but the others in our roof seem to be doing really well this year, in contrast to last year.
