Very vivid orange edged, brown body, 2 inches approx. Do not think it is orange tipped butterfly?

Small Copper butterfly?

Colour, pattern and its position basking in the sun on bare earth make me think of the Small Copper butterfly, but 2 inches (5 cm) would be almost twice as big as I'd expect.

Thank you - Perhaps it was 4 cm but the colour pattern of the Small Copper is reverse to the butterfly that I took a photo of, I think?

No, the patterning on the photo you've posted here is the same as any other Small Copper - orange forewings with brown spots and bands, brown hindwings with orange bands, but yours is taken at a different angle to most others
