Red deer

Red deer have such a lovely deep russet red coat in summer.

Roe Deer?

Gill,

On reflection I think you may be right. The facial features look more like Roe and it was alone in quite dense woodland. however the colour is dark and the white patch/patches not very prominent. Any experts out there?

Ooops!

Gill's right, I just glanced at this deer and it was so russet red in colour I agreed with red deer without looking closely, thanks Gill for being so observant!

It is a roe deer, note the black muzzle tip and edges to the ears, also the lack of a large, pale rump.
