Description:

The first photograph was taken when I first noticed the plant,which is growing among rocks and grass a little below a pond. The others were taken eleven days later, by which time it was flowering. It's a new arrival in this position, and seems to be spreading. The shape of the flowers reminds me of heather, so I've hazarded a guess that it is in the Ericaceae family but beyond that I'm very uncertain.

I think you must be correct. We suspected it was a garden escape.
