Usually known as Blue-tailed damselfly in Britain. Males and females can look very similar. This looks like a male.
I think this is a male, and for that reason I included a close-up shot of the pronotum. It seems clear from the Dijkstra/Lewington drawing that it is a male - the blue "collar" at the top of the pronotum has black lines crossing it.
Regarding names, there is a variety of English names used. I tend to use the Dijkstra version as standard as it is more international, I think.
I've been taking some dragonfly pictures recently and they are mainly blurry, but good enough for ID!
Also the rear segments and appendages in your photos look male, although it's not that obvious.
