Description:

this plant has been annoying me for years, what is it?? often grows in coastal areas of uk and the med but don't think its native in either area or at least can't find it in the floras

fleabane

I see them on the Dorset coast as well - I always put them down as garden fleabane Erigeron speciosus but I've never really examined them closely. It's mentioned briefly in Stace.

Interestingly Bowen's Flora of Dorset only lists seaside daisy Erigeron glaucous so I could well be wrong.

Erigeron glaucous looks

Erigeron glaucous looks rather like it, although in the California flora it looks a bit taller with fewer lower leaves, perhaps its flatter on the beach.
