A long established "dungheap" (known locally as "The Midden") north west of Ashwell on the road to Eyeworth in north-east Herts is a magnet for Yellow Wagtails that breed in the area ... and so it proved to be when I visited. To make things even better one can park right next to it and use the car as a hide without disturbing the various birds there. These included Pheasant, Pied Wagtails, Goldfinches, Yellowhammers, Linnets, Red-Legged and Grey Partridges, Chaffinches and House Sparrows.
