I think it's some kind of sponge but I'm not at all sure
Texture was firm but slightly squidgy

I am fairly certain you are right about the sponge (can't agree yet) - I've seen it here and will post in the next few days.

The green Isopod may be I.granulosa; see mine

Idotea

Thanks for the ID. Not one I've seen at South Shore can be surprising the differences that a couple of miles can make on our 'featureless' beach. The Idotea is baltica - on the original sized photos you can make out the three 'tails' on the last segment.

That's a cool separation David - I'm finding it increasingly difficult to do that, as I 'progress' through such things!
Certainly I.baltica has a unique last segment shape (nearly tridentate)
