Description:

Large evergreen flowering shrub, leaves are dark green and leathery, approx 6cm in length.

This is a bit of a wild guess

This is a bit of a wild guess because the flowers are not open yet, but I think this could be Pieris japonica (Andromeda)

I have 'googled' both Pieris japonica and Gaultheria shallon and while the flower of the shrub does appear very like Pieris the look and characteristics of the shrub have led me to conclude that it is definitely G. shallon - thanks to Jonathan and Vinny for your help.
