Unidentified invert
Description:

I was quite far out amongst the rockpools when I found a patch of seaweed which had quite a few of these small fly-type insects crawling around on it, occasionally encountering each other in which case they'd buzz their wings at each other and one would fly off a few cm. No idea what they are at all.

strange

They do look as if they must be flies of some sort, but I'm stumped as to what sort they are. I'm aware of several groups of flies that are associated with seaweeds, but none of them look like this! Very intriguing. Were you able to get any other photos?
