Description:

Seemed to be starting to burrow into wood in the garden.

Not sure of species (my skills, not the photo) -

But what it is doing is collecting wood to make a papier mache type nesting material.
They seem to do this quite happily with treated timber: maybe they can tolerate the heavy metals.
