Description:

The closest I can get is Silver-ground carpet but I'm far from confident as the pattern of the forewing markings does not look right. I tossed a coin to decide whether to make the ID or not!

I think you can see the mentioned band although faded and the banding continues on the hindwing, I think. That would suggest the Common Carpet. Your comments would be appreciated.

Wood Carpet

Hi Chris,

The line is not faded, it was just never very strong. E. rivata does have a slight black line which is often broken and 'patchy'.

However, this is not the feature which told me it was that species: it just doesn't look right for E. alternata, I think some call it the 'jizz' of the species.

Best wishes,

Douglas
