My initial thought was this might be Brown Scallop, but you wouldn't expect to see this in mid-Sept.
The shape of the wings and the general disposition of the cross lines suggest Yellow Shell. It looks as if the picture was taken with flash and so the moth appears to be a bit bleached out. That said, if it is a Yellow Shell the colouring is a bit unusual.

Take The Ridge north away from the 414 towards Little Baddow for approx one mile until you begin to round a tightish left-hand bend. Turn left down the very narrow lane for half a mile and the entrance is on your right. Enjoy.
