Seaside pansy

I'd never heard of the seaside subspecies before. What differences do I look for?

Violia tricolor subspecies

It's easy to tell the subspecies, particularly in very sandy areas, simply by digging around the roots and seeing whether the plant is spreading by rhizomes. If it is then you have subsp. curtsii. If it isn't then it's subsp. tricolor.
