Description:

Really not sure - all help gratefully received.
Observed in a hedgerow near Welshpool. I think this a species of scorpion fly, but unercertain if it is possible from the photo to differentiate it from P. communis or P. germanica.

Panorpa

I believe it's possible to identify male Panorpa from good photographs, but this one is a female.
The male would have a scorpion-like tail which is actually its genitalia. This is what needs to be looked at to determine the species. Females would need inspection under a microscope.
