Around 8cm long; very thin, under microscope has clear body with brown blotches. Also had dark brown spheres within the body, size around quarter of the body width - eggs?

Urm! That's what happens when you look things up on the internet at an event then don't check it when you get home! I'll have to do more research.
I've looked Mermis nigrescens up and it could have been that. I checked my notes and forgot to mention it had a red dot at the head end (only visible under the microscope) if that helps.
According to this page -
- the head area of females is reddish brown. Although I've seen them crawling over plants after rain I've never examined one closely, sorry.
