It may be pertinax, though the tarsi can't be seen. The colour of the abdomen is not important, as all Eristalis are variable and can have the orange to different extents.

That's very helpful. You may have gathered that I'm still feeling my way in this. I'm attempting, among other things to try and identify the pollinators in this location. Can I assume Eristalis?

Yes, no doubt about that. pertinax could be right, but it is the front and mid tarsi you need to see. It is the only one which has those pale.
