Landed on pea stick in garden and was then rather inactive.

Anthophora, not Andrena.
This will be a male? The female being mainly black.
There are four species of Anthophora in UK. Not just A. plumipes.
Thanks for the ID help.
Any idea which species?
It doesn't have the long hairs on the mid tarsi of plumipes.
Could it be furcata?
If the facial markings can be used as a reliable ID (and I don't know if they can be but they look quite distinctive), then yes, furcata is the likely candidate.
Mydaea, am I right to be using the facial markings of the males or can they be quite variable within a species?

I don't know them well enough to say, I'm afraid.
Never mind. Thanks for the reply :)
