Description:

Rounded fern-weed refers to a small group of similar marine algae. Pepper Dulse seems to be the favoured 'English' name. One must research carefully to get the Latin one 'right'!
Far more yellow than any 'bleached' version seen on the web or in my books. Even the base, unbleached version, is more golden than brown.
The yellow patches seen at low water are very obvious here.
This is very exposed to surge, even in Scapa Flow.

As for names, then it is as confusing as ever.
If WoRMS is to be accepted, then the name I have given is right - none of the books seem to agree.
But Mike Guiry's excellent seaweed site is proving so useful to the small Marine group in iSpot
